The conference will be held at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort and Golf Club – a showplace on Tampa Bay. Ideally situated on the waterfront marina and minutes from the Gulf coast beaches, the Vinoy Resort is a fine example of 1920’s Mediterranean Revival architecture that has earned it a National Register of Historic Places designation.
The city of St. Petersburg will welcome us as it undergoes its own renaissance with downtown revitalization that includes waterfront retail shops, restaurants, movie theatres, entertainment venues, museums (including the Salvador Dali Museum), and dozens of art galleries. With a purported average of some 360 days of sunshine each year, it is nicknamed “The Sunshine City,” and is uniquely located on a peninsula between Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Within walking distance of the Vinoy, you will find popular tourist landmarks like the St. Petersburg Pier.
The meeting will feature nationally known speakers including Megan K. Fox, Director, Knowledge Management and Information Technology, Jobs for the Future, who will be talking about the impact of mobile technologies on libraries. Dr. Robert F. Sabalis, LCME Assistant Secretary, Director, LCME Surveys and Team Training and LCME Assistant Secretary, Association of American Medical Colleges will provide us with an overview of the current status of new and expanding medical schools in the United States. Dr. John Morreall, an internationally recognized authority on humor and its benefits, will recharge our spirits as we leave the conference to return to our libraries.
